Benefits advice

Home Advice Benefits advice

We can help you:

  • Check if you’re entitled to receive benefits and how much
  • Help you claim benefits, either on paper or online
  • Help you with self-assessment and review forms
  • Help you challenge decisions

Each year we help roughly 8,500 people with their benefits issues. Each person we help receives on average they an income gain of £650.

DWP form-filling appointments

Due to high demand, we have a limited number of appointments available. Although we have a waiting list, we do from time to time need to close it once our capacity has been reached. We appreciate this can be frustrating, but we’ll contact you if a suitable appointment becomes available. Please be aware that the wait for an appointment may be several weeks.

Benefits advice first steps

To help you, we need to know:

  • Who is in your household / who you live with
  • What income you have (for example, from wages, pensions, etc)
  • How much your rent or mortgage is
  • How much your council tax bill is
  • Whether anyone has any health issues
  • How much you pay for any childcare

If you have a health problem or you’re a carer, we need to know:

  • What medical issues there are
  • How they affect what you or they can do in normal life
  • If you regularly look after someone else.

If you have issues related to debt, we offer debt advice.
